Reading History Essay

I have always loved reading. I have been reading on spare time for about 5 or 6 years now. So far, I’ve been extremely enjoying reading. I can even remember most of the great books and authors that have made my reading experience so great.
I was first interested in books when I was in kindergarten. We weren’t really reading at the time but teachers and sometimes would read short stories and tell stories that I thought were funny. I never really took the time out to read because as a kid, I thought reading was for loser and people who didn’t have friends.
As I got older my reading level of interest and intelligence grew. I went from books with three words on the pages, to books that actually had chapters and that I couldn’t even completely understand. During elementary school, I began to read books such as “Spiderman” and “Goosebumps”. I enjoyed reading but I enjoyed seeing the proud look on my mom’s face when I finished a book more.
Once I entered middle school, I began to read books that challenged me. These books had more complicated plots and told more interesting stories. I enjoyed reading so much because I thought that reading was way more interesting then actually watching a movie or playing video games. My mom had a small library in our basement that I would always use as a resource for books. Even though I mostly picked books out because of the interesting covers, I was still doing a lot of challenging reading.

Now that I’m in high school, my reading has matured drastically. I’ve been reading books like, “Doppelganger”, “The Body of Christopher Creed”, “You Don’t Know Me”, and “Dark Angel”. Books like this are books that I take interest in. As a child, my mother always told me that reading would make me smarter. Who doesn’t want to be smart? I know I sure do. So as you can see, my reading level has grown over the years and I plan to advance to higher and harder levels of books as time goes on. Reading was one of my first loves and I will continue to love it.
During my sophomore year of high school, I did not do as much reading as I would have liked to. All of the reading I did manage to do was just for school. I miss reading. Growing up, it was always for fun. I would read books on my leisure and it was something I genuinely enjoyed doing. Now, reading has seemed to become something I have to do instead of something I want to. I was always very busy with school and friends during my sophomore year so I didn’t have as much time to read. My junior year, I plan on making time to read and hopefully I’ll enjoy it as much as I used to.
